If you are shopping around for a driving instructor/driving school, you are doing the right thing. The pupil will be in the car for a period of time with the instructor and trust is of utmost importance. Here are some of the key things to look for when calling around...
1) How long have they been working as a driving instructor? Our instructors have a minimum
of 6 years experience. They take their job seriously as this is their full time job, not fitting around other things.
2) What is their pass rate? We are proud to have an excellent pass rate with our pupils.
3) Are they fully qualified or are they a trainee instructor, charging you the full rates and using
you as a 'guinea pig'. All of our instructors are FULLY QUALIFIED, DSA Registered,
Approved Driving Instructors who have been Criminal Record Bureau (enhanced) checked.
This can be checked as all of our instructors display a GREEN badge on the windscreen.
4) Your instructor should be approachable. You should be able to feel confident enough to
ask questions and someone with whom you feel comfortable interacting with. Our
instructors have a professional approach, not just in their teaching but their all round
mannerism. We will always make you feel at ease.
5) Communication skills is very important for the understanding of subjects. The depth of your
knowledge relies on how well information is communicated from them to you. Our
instuctors are excellent communicators. All coming from business backgrounds previously,
they understand how important this is. Communication is they key to success.
6) Tuition vehicle. A driving school vehicle should be well maintained, have dual controls and
should be changed often so its relatively new. Comfort for both instructor and pupil should
be considered as well as ease of use, especially for manouvers. We use the brand new
model Ford Fiesta (Titanium) as our tuition vehicle, which has been fitted with dual controls
and air conditioning for comfort. Our cars are under 3 years old.
7) Your instructor should be both polite and patient. Ours are!
8) Preparation. A good instructor should assist you with more than just practical lessons.
We can assist with the Theory Test, lend the Theory Test DVD for practice and we will
give you handouts and training aides to our pupils to assist with their lessons at NO
additional cost.
If the instructor is charging silly rates for driving lessons, ask yourself:
a) Are they fully qualified? (A green badge will be displayed to prove they are)
b) Are they experienced?
c) Is their car under 3 years old (ie reliable/maintained etc)?
d) Will they give you extra assistance (ie handouts/training aides)?
e) Will they give you a FULL 1 HOUR lesson or count the time to pick you up and drop you
off as part of the 1 hour?
f) Have they voluntary signed the DSA Code Of Conduct, assuring you of professionalism?
g) Have they taken their job seriously by joining an Association for Driving Instructors /
Motoring Schools ?
h) Are they an excellent communicator?
i) Are they approachable and professional?
j) Do they actually take pride in what they do?
K) Are they DSA registered to give instruction, check for a green badge on the windscreen
...or are they just counting you as another person whom they will try and make as much money out of? (Please note we are not in any way saying all Driving Instructors do, but its best to be sure and check)
